Academic and Student Support Services
To support student learning activities, the Astronomy Study Program provides a range of academic and extracurricular support services, including:
Academic Advisors
Course planning for each semester is facilitated through Academic Advisory Activities, which involve face-to-face interactions between students and their assigned academic advisors. These sessions are intended to develop an effective course-taking strategy aligned with the curriculum, while considering each student’s capabilities and academic performance.
- Guiding students throughout their academic journey.
- Encouraging creativity and the development of effective study habits.
- Assisting students in planning their academic path to ensure academic success.
Thesis Supervisor
When students enroll in undergraduate thesis courses, they are assigned thesis supervisors, who then serve as their new academic advisors. These supervisors provide guidance in selecting a research topic, as well as mentoring students throughout the thesis preparation process.
Tutorial Programs
Tutorials are conducted by senior students with outstanding academic records, strong communication skills, and a proven commitment to teaching. Tutorial sessions typically include:
- Problem-solving exercises
- Thematic discussions
- Hands-on practice and activities
Extracurricular Activities
Students are encouraged to participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities, both academic and interest-based, including:
- Academic and scientific organizations, such as Himpunan Mahasiswa Astronomi (Astronomy Student Association)
- Art, sports, and talent-based organizations, including student arts units, sports clubs, and scout organizations
In total, students have access to:
- 21 educational activity units
- 25 art activity units
- 23 sports activity units
Soft Skills Development
The Undergraduate Program in Astronomy, in collaboration with Bosscha Observatory, organizes annual training programs to develop students’ soft skills. These programs include:
- Instrumentation and telescope operation training
- Public presentation sessions during guided visits to the observatory
Additionally, in partnership with the Indonesian Astronomy Olympiad Committee, the program conducts telescope training sessions to select students who will serve as technical team members in training high school participants for the national astronomy olympiad.
Senior students are also given the opportunity to participate in national hilal (crescent moon) observations.
Financial Support for International Programs
The program offers financial assistance for students selected to attend international summer or winter schools, enabling them to gain global academic experience and exposure.
