The Undergraduate Programme in Astronomy at ITB provides students with a strong foundation in both theoretical and observational astronomy. It encompasses three main areas of expertise:
The academic curriculum is designed to develop analytical and logical reasoning through structured scientific training. Students are expected to identify and analyze scientific problems, formulate comprehensive explanations, and engage in laboratory and observational tasks with discipline and integrity.
Vision & Mission
UPA is evolving towards the vision and is also driven by the mission which are formulated based on the scientific development and needs in the world, the vision and mission of ITB, as well as those of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The vision of UPA is as follows:
“To become a pioneer in contributing to the field of astronomy, astrophysics, and other relevant multi-disciplinary subjects, for the benefit of the nation, focusing on the progress in astronomical sciences.”
UPA is also driven to achieve the following missions:
Program Education Objectives (PEOs)
Based on the stated vision and mission and refer to the national and university internal regulation, UPA formulated the Program Education Objectives (PEO) as follows:
Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
Upon successful completion of the undergraduate programme, graduates of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Astronomy will be able to:
Curriculums
UPA's curriculum is designed to be completed in four academic years (eight semesters), with a maximum allowed study period of eight years. Each academic year consists of two regular semesters, and each semester includes 16 weeks of instruction. To graduate, students must complete a minimum of 144 credit units or sks (1 credit unit = 45 hours/semester), equivalent to 240 ECTS (adopting 1 ECTS = 27 hours/semester).
